Today, November 5, 2015, I am launching my Etsy store, Nora’s North, in honor of my sister, Nora. When she was younger, Nora used to think that the direction she turned to face was always north. She was very passionate, liked to do things her way, and didn’t let things get in her way. It was Nora’s way. Nora’s North.
When Nora passed, I was working on my masters and it was then I realized that life was short and that I must pursue my dream. Twelve years later, I am in Los Angeles creating. I am, in short, a filmmaker…creating roles for myself as an actress and making them happen: writing, casting, producing, stunting (not a word, but I have worked as a stunt double for Zooey Deschanel in the “Parking Spot” episode of The New Girl as well as for Jessica Alba in her upcoming movie The Veil.). The most difficult part of this is financing, but after many frustrating years of trying to find work that allowed me to pursue my acting habit, I’ve decided that working for myself would be the most rewarding.
Designing jewelry is an outlet kind of like recess. I get to take a break from thinking and processing and just play. It began with my first design, the rosary (working in Hollywood is something you can’t do alone!). Of course, when you’re doing recess, you’re required to do fun things like play with magnets and hex nuts (originally an architectural engineer…which may explain my avant-garde style). From there, my vivid imagination just took off. I’m excited to share my work with you and I hope it inspires you in your journey: to discover your talents, pursue your dream, and to keep faith.
